I love our Chicago bungalow, and I love its hardwood floors. But I hate the dust bunnies. After four weeks of undisturbed reproduction opportunities, they have moved in and started to take out home equity loans. But today we put a stop to it. Continue reading “Bunny-cide”
Three minutes in the life of Lucy
Ann went nuts with the camera yesterday and shot a string of 20 photos of Lucy in her arms over the course of three minutes. Most of them are a bit out of focus, but at a small scale you can’t really notice — and the whole series captures a feel for what it’s like to hold and look into the face of this very active little baby. So I put them together into a “filmstrip.” Continue reading “Three minutes in the life of Lucy”
Thinking out loud
I am constantly inspired by you readers who have been so helpful in responding to posts here at BNN. In particular, a number of comments on yesterday’s “rant about Tracy Hogg”:/news/2006/why-i-am-mad-at-tracy-hogg/ got me thinking. Continue reading “Thinking out loud”
Why I am mad at Tracy Hogg
When I was pregnant, I really enjoyed reading The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg. (You can read my earlier review here.) I thought she sounded like a very reasonable person. Now, I am mad at her (even though she’s dead). Continue reading “Why I am mad at Tracy Hogg”
Sleep poker
I’m not a gambling woman, but putting Lucy down to sleep sure does feel chancey to me most of the time. Each time I quickly dash out of the room, heart racing, listening anxiously for any whimpering, I think about how much this process feels like luck rather than skill. The first few weeks of Lucy’s out-of-womb experience have been quite an exciting ride, and I’ve felt a lot like I’m holding on for dear life. But here are a few signs that I’m starting to feel just like regular old Ann again: Continue reading “Signs of health”
Arch angel
Earlier this week, Ann wrote about Lucy’s adorable “"little stretch routine"”:/news/2006/three-weeks/ when waking up from a swaddled sleep, and that made me realize we didn’t have any photos of that. Continue reading “Arch angel”

Experts vs. instincts
Wednesday, I decided to take the day off from reading baby books. Some of them were really stressing me out. Continue reading “Experts vs. instincts”
Three weeks
Yesterday was Lucy’s three-week birthday. It is hard to believe how much our lives have changed in that time! Many people advise us (wisely) to cherish these days with her, whether they are joyful or challenging. Jon and I are doing a pretty good job of enjoying each day, but there are definitely things we are looking forward to in the future. Continue reading “Three weeks”
