Lucy is a champion sleeper. We are really grateful for that, and hope that one of these days we can follow her example and sleep for twelve hours straight at night. But, as with anything, there are some drawbacks. Continue reading “Sleep review”
A postcard from Chicago
Sometimes postcards arrive when the vacationers are already back home. Sometimes this happens even when they don’t have to go through the post office! Here’s out slightly delayed postcard to you. Continue reading “A postcard from Chicago”
Vacation week
Lucy, Jon, and I are taking a vacation this week. We found this amazing Chicago bungalow that’s available for the week. It has every amenity we need, plenty of space for all three of us, and it’s free! Plus we don’t even need to pack! Continue reading “Vacation week”
It’s my birfday
We threw a small-ish birthday party yesterday to celebrate Lucy’s one-year status. I’m not sure if she knew the party was for her, but she definitely loved having all the people around. And Mama succeeded in not staying up all night preparing for it. Continue reading “It’s my birfday”
The labor story
In honor of Lucy’s due date (April 16), we are posting the story of her labor and birth, even though it took another nine days for it to actually happen — and a year to write it up. Continue reading “The labor story”
Knife shopping
The past few weeks have been pretty crazy: work deadlines piled one on top of another, Papa away for “Opening Day baseball”:http://firstpitch.org/ and then “a theology conference”:http://www.wheaton.edu/Theology/theo_conf/, and Mama valiantly battling a mild cold. So, Lucy and I did the only reasonable thing we could do today: we bought a chef’s knife. Continue reading “Knife shopping”

While I don’t miss feeling like a ballerina hippo, there is something I had when I was pregnant that is hard to get back now: the determination to take good care of myself. Continue reading “Worth something”
Germophobe
So far in Lucy’s life, we’ve been able to provide her with a generally sanitary environment. Sure, she licks the floor occasionally, but I do wash it regularly and we usually don’t wear shoes in the house (much). But I’m a bit puzzled about how to relax my standards now that The Outdoors is a possible playground. Continue reading “Germophobe”
Seventeen things that make Lucy laugh
We are pretty sure Lucy has an awesome sense of humor. She laughs and giggles much of the time, and we are unashamed in our attempts to make her laugh more! Here are just a few examples of what gets her going: Continue reading “Seventeen things that make Lucy laugh”
Spinach à la Noyes
Since we’ve been talking about Lucy’s vegetable-eating habits, I feel compelled to share our favorite spinach side-dish recipe. Cheap, easy, and yummy! Inspired by a dish from the “Noyes Street Café”:http://www.noyescafe.com/ in Evanston. Continue reading “Spinach à la Noyes”
