Sick days

We’ve had a few sick days over here at Boyds’ Nest. Lucy came down with some kind of stomach bug on Friday morning, just after we had a half-foot of snow fall on Chicago. But we didn’t suffer too badly — and who wants to leave the house in that weather anyway?

Jon was away at meetings, so the unfortunate task of washing barfy sheets fell solely to Mama. But even that wasn’t too bad, as we are well-stocked with Shout and lots of hand sanitizer. Lucy and I canceled our outings (sadly missing a greatly anticipated overnight with Grammie and Grandpa Boyd), made some jello, and snuggled up to watch videos. This was Lucy’s introduction to the wonderful world of the “PowerPuff Girls”:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004W1ZX/octothorppres-20. Judging from these photos, do you think she liked it? —continues—

Sick days

Lucy was relatively happy and energetic, despite her intestinal malady, so I just tried to give her as many fluids as possible and not worry. But it was a relief to have Jon home yesterday. We missed the Papa!

After a marathon 14-hour-sleep last night, Lucy seems to be pretty much recovered — she woke up calling for water and requesting buttered graham crackers. Later in the day, I called Jon on his cell phone to joyfully report a “normal poop” (but isn’t it only mothers of newborns who do that? it was a real blast from the past). I felt like I should be in a Biblical parable — “the woman who nursed her sick toddler, then rejoiced when her child had a normal bowel movement.” I’m just grateful for the way God made our bodies and immune systems, and I’m glad that Lucy’s seems to be functioning well!

  1. Powderpuff Girls is awesome! (Yes, yes, I still enjoy cartoons.) :)
Glad Lucy is on the mend. She looks great in those photos.

  2. Believe it or not Charles introduced us to Powder Puff Girls, much to his brothers’ dismay. I am not sure how thrilled I was them. I think when we watched a full length movie I felt like I had eaten a BIG bowl of frosting. And now that I have watched way too many Bionicle (lego product) movies, I am wondering if they are just the same movie except for boys.

Anyway, I am glad that Lucy is feeling better. I pray that you dont get sick.

  3. We’ve never watched Powderpuff girls. Benjamin was on a real Elmo’s World kick for a long time, but has now switched to Curious George which airs on PBS Kids most weekday mornings (I DVR it and he watches it later). I think those episodes are actually really cute.

  4. PBS Kids is a huge hit in our house. I have yet to see PowderPuff Girls. Must be on cable? I’m so clueless to these things. If it’s not on PBS or on the library’s DVD shelf I don’t know about it.

Glad Lucy’s on the mend. I hope she did better than Mo. He fought every barf and typically made a huge mess. (Most noteably covering his big sister’s hair and dress when she was curled up sleeping with him) Nothing I did could convince him to just throw up in the bowl I had for him. I think the biggest blessing is the stomach bug doesn’t last long. Glad to hear you didn’t catch it!

  5. Sorry for the barf. Last time Maddy barffed I made Brian leave youth night early because it was just more than I wanted to deal with…although I did clean it up, having him with me made it so much better. But I made the mistake of letting maddy sleep with me that night and it took over a week to get her out of our bed. Now we do night-time stories in the “big bed” (partly because we don’t fit in the rocker together). But she tells me she is sick all of the time so she can try to get into bed with us!
We too do C. George. Tivo it because it is one at like 5am or something crazy like that. They are cute, educationally and short.
    Enjoy your last month.5!

  6. oh, the barfy sheets. I was so glad when Abi was able to use a bowl or a toilet like a regular sick person. However, that was only after throwing up TWICE on my side of the bed, inches from my sleeping face, dangerously close to the heating vent. When sickness strikes, we do Veggie Tales marathons. Hope you are healthy the rest of the winter!
