It occurs to me that one of the things about the best friendships is how you pay attention to how the other person changes over time.
With adults, the pace of change is usually pretty measured, but can sometimes be pretty major. Ann and I have been through some of this together, and it’s something that’s made our marriage strong and joyful, I think.
Needless to say, Baby Boyd will be someone we want to be attentive to as _she_ changes. And I figure babies and kids go through so many more major changes, more quickly, it’s really going to require us to pay attention, listen closely, notice change and growth — leaving room in our minds for the new Baby Boyd who might emerge in the next stage.
