Today Lucy is one hundred days old. I’ve been reading about a Korean tradition of having a big party, called a baek-il, to celebrate this special day in a baby’s life. However, let me confess now that everything I know about this is from the Kimchi Mamas blog.
In years past, the one-hundred-day mark was celebrated especially because of the high rate of infant mortality — it was a miracle that the baby survived the first few months. Traditionally, it is also the first day that you let anyone outside the immediate family see the baby.
So, perhaps we have jumped the gun by publishing photos of Lucy from Day 1. And we have no special party planned for her today. But we’re pretty tickled that she’s been breathing air for a hundred days!
