The other day, while waiting for my pedicure to dry (really!), I sat reading a parenting magazine and saw a great idea. When I told Jon about it, we wondered if I shouldn’t keep a list of these somewhere so we remember them when Lucy is older. We hope our new “Free Advice”:/news/category/free-advice/ section might be useful to you, too. Continue reading “Yes day”
Seven-eleven
We’re focusing on dates these days at BNN. The significance of today? It isn’t just the name of a well-known convenience store. Lucy turns eleven weeks old today, on the eleventh. Pretty spooky, huh? Continue reading “Seven-eleven”
Water baby
After weeks of struggling with bathing a wiggling, shrieking baby (or avoiding the whole bath scene altogether), we’re seeing a change: Lucy seems to be joining the company of water-lovers. Last night was the first time I’ve not had to evaluate her enjoyment of the bath by counting the minutes she didn’t scream. Continue reading “Water baby”
LMP
I’ve thought about today’s date a lot in the past year. I’ve written it down in doctor’s offices, entered it into websites, and made multiple calculations based on it. Ladies and gentlemen, let me present to you the 2005 date of my Last Menstrual Period. Continue reading “LMP”
Tips on Lucy care
We have learned a thing or two in the past ten weeks about how to care for Lucy. She has specific wants and needs, and she is quite good at communicating them — or, at least letting us know when she is displeased with _something._ Continue reading “Tips on Lucy care”

Independence Day Gazpacho
We made gazpacho last year on July 4 — such a good, cold meal for a hot summer day. Perhaps we’ll begin an annual Independence Day Gazpacho tradition, since I just made it again today. Continue reading “Independence Day Gazpacho”
Lucy gets the needle
Yesterday, at two months and three days of age, Lucy received her first injections. I’m not sure who cried more, Mama or Baby. Continue reading “Lucy gets the needle”
Scrying
One of my dearest hopes as a mother is that I would be a good listener. The best way is to start now by “reading” Lucy’s cries and expressions in order to be able to meet her needs well. However, this is easier said than done. Continue reading “Scrying”
Look-alike?
So many people (including “many of you”:/news/2006/youd-be-cranky-too/#comment-442) have pointed out a family resemblance in Lucy. That is quite a compliment, since we think she is quite a beauty. But frankly, I often have a hard time seeing the resemblance, especially to either Jon or myself. Continue reading “Look-alike?”
