Today Lucy is one hundred days old. I’ve been reading about a Korean tradition of having a big party, called a _baek-il,_ to celebrate this special day in a baby’s life. Continue reading “One hundred days”
Babywearing
There are a variety of ways to “wear your baby” these days using slings, wraps, and carriers. Advocates of babywearing describe its benefits, which include less crying for baby, the promotion of baby-parent bonding, and ease of travel. Not to mention less fatigue for the arms! But they usually omit what I think is one of the greatest perks: accessorizing. Continue reading “Babywearing”
Immersion experience
With several friends having recently given birth, I’ve been thinking more about Lucy’s first weeks again. And I’ve realized something: caring for a newborn is like having a language or cultural immersion experience. Continue reading “Immersion experience”
Hot Mama Cheesecake
This post isn’t quite as sexy as the title might imply — although a recipe for a yummy, easy, no-bake cheesecake might give anyone a tingle down their spine. Continue reading “Hot Mama Cheesecake”
The big three
Lucy turned three months old yesterday, and I must tell everyone: you were right. It definitely gets better when they hit that three-month marker. Continue reading “The big three”
Sushi bowl

But I sometimes wonder: are we doing enough to stimulate Lucy’s development? Continue reading “Baby stim”
Lucy Log
If you read the “last post”:/news/2006/first-night-without-papa-the-girls-side/, you might be wondering to yourself, “How did Ann know how many diapers she had changed?” Behold, the wonder of the Lucy Log. Continue reading “Lucy Log”
First night without Papa: the girls’ side
I was somewhat nervous about Jon’s trip to St. Louis. Would the baby ever sleep? Would I get stir-crazy and lonely? Would I know how to comfort her crying? Overall, it was quite a success — although I wouldn’t want Jon to take a trip every week or anything. Continue reading “First night without Papa: the girls’ side”
Getting thrifty
Having a baby in the house definitely adds new dimensions to one’s spending patterns. Jon and I have been doing our best to prepare for this, and so far we are doing pretty well. Here are a few ways we’ve made creative adjustments to our budget in preparation for Lucy’s arrival. Continue reading “Getting thrifty”
