Here in our Boyds’ nest, _W_ doesn’t just stand for Wednesday. It means “Weigh Day,” too. Continue reading “Weigh day”
Daylight-savings time
The last couple nights, Lucy went to bed a bit later and even (oh joy!) slept a bit later this morning. Normally, I’d try to ease her back into our goal of a 7pm-7am sleep pattern. But then I remembered: daylight-savings time is rapidly approaching. Who wins, Lucy or the clock — or both? Do we even have a choice? Continue reading “Daylight-savings time”
The Week
A few months ago, while desperately trying to find a way to think about non-baby-related things, I stumbled upon _The Week._ It is the perfect magazine to help a new mother keep up with the news, with clearly written, comprehensive, brief articles; almost no ads; and only 40 pages per issue. Continue reading “The Week”
Zoo trip
The other day, Jon realized he had one vacation day he had to use (or lose) before the end of September. I said, “Let’s use it!” And he said, “Let’s go to the zoo!” Continue reading “Zoo trip”
Baby food
Lucy is going to start solids in about a month, and that means two things: 1) Mama’s getting out the blender to puree some sweet potatoes, and 2) Lucy’s poops are going to get more human. Continue reading “Baby food”
And Baby makes three
Having a baby changes a lot of things: body-shape, sleep habits, recreational possibilities, you name it. But we were surprised to notice that it has changed our names, even before Lucy has begun to speak. Continue reading “And Baby makes three”
A little bigger
Jon tells this joke: “There is Papa Bigger, and Mama Bigger, and Baby Bigger. Who is the biggest?” (Pause.) “Baby Bigger, because he is just a little Bigger.” Even though we know that babies grow quickly, one thing is finally bringing home the truth about Lucy’s growth curve: Little Bigger is getting too big for some of her clothes. Continue reading “A little bigger”
Research project
Lucy and I decided to undertake a research project while Jon was away. The topic: “Let’s see if Lucy can sleep through the night without eating.” So far, we have learned a lot — like where the edge of insanity is for Mama. (Just kidding.)(Sort of.) Continue reading “Research project”
The girls are running the house
Papa left this morning for four days of meetings near Freeport, Illinois. Once Lucy and I get over being grumpy about it, we might have some fun. Continue reading “The girls are running the house”
Sleep prevention
It seems pretty typical to spend a lot of energy helping your baby to fall asleep, but what about trying to keep them awake? I’ve been finding myself in this position a lot lately, and I keep wondering if I’m torturing the poor girl. Continue reading “Sleep prevention”
