Umbilical-cord-dropoff contest! Fabulous prizes!

In our ongoing effort to be as absurd as possible here at BNN, we’ve decided to launch a contest: *When will Lucy’s umbilical-cord stump drop off?* (Seriously.) Enter your guess here, and if you come closest to the actual day and time, you will win _fabulous prizes!_

Actually, there will be *three winners.* And what will they win? The grand-prize winner will receive:

# A special CD-ROM with the three cutest *movie clips* of Lucy we’ve shot so far
# A *personalized, autographed photo of Lucy* of your choice from among any published here at Boyds’ Nest News

The two runners-up will *also* receive a personalized, autographed photo of their choice.

Don’t miss this chance to win! Seriously, the movie clips are pretty dang cute. And her handwriting is elegant, so the autographed glossies are sure to be collector’s items.

h3. Rules

Here’s how it works:

# Make your guess about when — in *days, hours, and minutes after her birth* — Lucy’s umbilical-cord stump will fall off.
# Submit a comment (below) to this post and state clearly your guess in days, hours, and minutes. (Anyone submitting a guess in the form of calendar dates will be publicly mocked.)
# The time of aforementioned stump-falling-off-age will be determined by the sole judgement of the Official Judges, Mama and Papa. They will notify the three people (or more, in the event of ties) whose guesses are closest to the actual time of their stupendous win!

It’s easy to enter a submission here: just type your name, email, and answer in the comment form below!

Good luck!

  1. Kirra — You’ve guessed a time that has already passed (since she’s going on five-and-a-half days old already). The Official Judges have conferred and will give you a second guess, if you’d like. Just enter it as a new comment below.

(Everybody else: This is a one-time exception! Don’t try it yourself! :)

  2. Well let’s see… Benjamin pulled his off at 6 days old, but since she’s nearing that, I’ll give her a few more days: 9 days, 2 hours, 17 minutes and 10 seconds after birth.

  3. Jon,

I’ve been observing your new arrival from afar and Congratulations on the birth of Lucy! (As you may recall, my oldest is also named Lucia and we call her Lucy too, so I like your choice of names very much!)

Actually, I almost never post on people’s websites unless they’ve raised my ire to the point where I have no choice but to post or unless they’ve tapped into my ultra-competitive side (and hence the reason for my post).

My guess is 14 days, 10 hours, 12 minutes and 17.25 seconds.

    Thanks!

  4. Ha! Toni, not only do you want to win the contest, but — with your guess down to the hundreths of a second — you might just win the prize for false precision, too. :)

Thanks for posting despite your usual practices (for which I don’t blame you). I must confess the contest is partly an attempt to draw out some of the wallflowers. :) And I’m certainly glad we got your comment for the competition’s sake, not because we irked you to distraction.

Frankly, I had forgotten your Lucia’s name. I hope she likes it (and that ours will, too). And hmm, lemme think: any chance you pronounce it Italian-style as we do? :)

(Sorry for all the smileys. I guess I’ve just got a sleep-deprivation buzz going.)

  5. As of May 5, just after noon, the contest is closed. See the “results”:/news/2006/we-have-a-winner/.
