The other day, while waiting for my pedicure to dry (really!), I sat reading a parenting magazine and saw a great idea. When I told Jon about it, we wondered if I shouldn’t keep a list of these somewhere so we remember them when Lucy is older. We hope our new “Free Advice”:/news/category/free-advice/ section might be useful to you, too.
This idea was found in a recent issue of the magazine _Family Fun_. (Not sure which issue, since I really did read this at a nail salon.)
*Yes day.* One family found that the parents were saying “no” to their children a bit too often when their participation in various games and activities was requested. So they instituted “Yes Day”: one Saturday a month where the parents say “yes” to previously denied invitations. During the month, they write down their kids’ rejected requests — such as coloring together or playing a board game — and placed them in a jar. On “Yes Day,” they sort through these ideas and pick several to do together. Ground rules: all entries into the “Yes Day” jar must be of reasonable cost, ability, and time length — no suggestions to fly to the moon allowed.
