July 10 was my Grandma Martha Borzykowski’s birthday. She would have been 95 today, but she passed away last August. Our little Lucy got her “middle name”:http://lucyboyd.com/about/ from her, and we hope she has inherited lots more, too.
For instance, here are just a few of the things we appreciated in Grandma:
* Her quick smile for loved ones
* Her willingness to work hard for things that were worth it
* Her skill and care in making a welcoming home
* Her ability to make people feel at ease
* Her taking good care of what was entrusted to her
* Her deep love for her husband and family
* Her appreciation of the goodness of a garden
* Her honest gratitude and keen consciousness of what her blessings were
* Her loyalty to friends old and new
* And it must be said, her delicious cooking
We miss her a lot, and we’re sorry she didn’t get a chance to hold Lucy herself. But I guess that just means we’ll have to give Lucy a squeeze and a kiss and put as much of Great-Grandma Martha’s love into them as we can.
I’m so glad I got to know Grandma. She always made me feel loved, from the very first time I met her when Jon and I had just been dating for a few months. At our wedding, she was tickled pink when my step-father came up to her and said something in Polish. We had lots of fun cookie-baking days together, and heard so many good stories from her. We really love her a lot, and we miss her.
That’s really nice, you guys.
What a beautiful tribute to your grandma Jon! Ann & Lucy are lucky ladies to have someone who appreciates and recognizes all the qualities you listed.
This is beautiful and I know that it means the world to Mom. Thanks for being so thoughtful.
