Well, I wanted to write a post yesterday, but other things had to come first — like nursing constantly. Lucy is apparently having her six-week growth spurt. (I must say I’m glad to have the nipple-soreness phase behind me at this point in her life.)
I’ve decided to have a No-Policy Policy during Lucy’s growth spurt — meaning that, while we usually try to follow a loose routine of eating, awake time, and sleeping, we are just going to not worry about it for a day or two. If Lucy cries for more than five minutes, I’m going to feed her, even if she just finished eating fifteen minutes before. Last night we did not have the No-Policy Policy, and at one point all three of us were crying. Enough of that! The goal is to have as peaceful a day as possible. So far, it is going quite well. I have a big stack of books and magazines next to my favorite nursing chair, a cute new Boppy cover, and a pile of burp cloths — I’m ready for whatever comes.
p{color:gray}. Photo: You do the math: growth spurt = diaper spurt. Here we are harnessing the energy of the sun to work for Lucy.
Lucy is currently swinging away contentedly in her new Baby Papasan cradle swing (purchased with christening-gift money from Uncle Vince and Aunt Elena — what a treat!) and listening to Jamiroquai, specifically “Canned Heat,” the song from the _Napoleon Dynamite_ dance sequence. I figure I have about ten minutes left before she is ready to stop swinging her booty and start eating again.
It is great to just surrender to the fact that I’m Non-Stop Nursing Mama for a few days. Since I believe that this is just a temporary phase, I’m okay with letting everything else slide. It is sort of like when I’m sick with the flu, it is great to just stay in my pajamas and eat chicken soup and watch movies all day long. But it is way better than being sick, because a) I’m not sick, I feel good, and b) we’re working on the Bigger Baby Project, and that is a good goal to have!
I’ll see you all on the other side!
Awesome photo Ann! Sorry we haven’t been able to connect. Lucy is a cutie and but it seems like you’ve been busy nursing away! Remember, ttsp…”this too shall pass.” :)
The photo is all Jon — I can’t even figure out how to use the camera most of the time. :) I’m glad you liked it!
