Last week, you may have seen the snap of me with “my own first-birthday cake”:/news/2007/papa-at-one/, back in 1967. Well, now Lucy’s had her chance.
Here she is, with her own birthday crown on — and with a dress that’s amazingly similar to my little overalls, and her cake atop the very same pedestal of my late Grandmother’s, the similarities are striking.
Here’s a detail of that other photo, just for comparison.
And how’d she like the cake itself? Uh, not so much. I guess this is where the similarities end — because I simply _love_ that traditional Boyd birthday cake of angel food with chocolate whipped cream frosting! As my own father would say (and has, many times), it’s fine if she doesn’t like it: that leaves more for me!
Are they just too cute??? I can hardly stand living around all of this cuteness!
Lucy’s rejection of the birthday cake was truly impressive: very decisive, clear, no coercion to be endured. At least it isn’t ONLY vegetables that she won’t eat. We might just have to have a birthday yogurt tradition for awhile. :)
Benjamin’s not a big fan of cake either, however, he loves ice cream.
To my loves,
It is dramatic to see the chance similarities between the two photos following a spread of 41 years! And I certainly include the two hats and the ‘1’ lovingly cut out by two wonderful Mamas. The celebration was more meaningful than even I expected because there was more cake left over for the rest of us. I send you my love always…
What cute pics! And that is a great dress on Lucy! =)
I just cannot get over how much Lucy looks like Jon. And how Lucy looks like Ann. Next year you can try a messy cherry pie.
