Lucy’s first day of preschool

We began a new chapter in our family yesterday when Lucy had her first day at preschool. She loved it!

In conversation with her for several months now, we’ve been talking up Lucy’s enrollment at the local “North Park Covenant Preschool”:http://www.npcovenant.org/preschool.php. The school meets right inside a church that is just three blocks from our house — we walk by it almost every day. The room is bright and sunny, full of well-organized toys, and a child-sized toilet in the bathroom. (Lucy is very impressed by this.) I love it that the director, Miss Laura, seems to be as concerned about personal hygiene as I am, and includes hand-washing upon arriving at school in the routine. Fabulous!

We had an orientation meeting on Tuesday of this week where Lucy and I both got the lay of the land. She had a terrific time making a mask with sequins (which she promptly removed). I learned more about how the once-a-month classroom parent volunteering works. The program is Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00-11:30, and I’m glad I get to participate “from the inside” once a month.

Thursday was the first day dropping Lucy off at school. After hand-washing (where she has mastered the push-button-and-pull-lever paper towel dispenser), she dug right into some play-dough rolling. Then she was entranced by the fabulous kitchen set and had a blast whipping up some “cheeseburgers” to “eat.” It was clear that Lucy felt right at home, so Rosie and I gave her hugs and kisses and trotted along home. When we picked her up a few hours later, she was glowing, and excited to introduce Miss Laura to Rosie. A good day, and we look forward to many more!

  1. I’m so glad she did well and had a great time! We hope to be able to afford pre-kinder for Mo next year. He would love to have his own school to go to.

  2. M’s first day last year was also good – great to hear Lucy fit right in, and I’ll let M know. I can’t believe we start year 2 on Monday…

  3. yeay. We love school in our house. Both of our girls love it so much they don’t want to come home. They too think the little potty’s are great and brushing teeth after lunch is pretty exciting too. I must say the girls learn so much there that it is worth the money and time. I hope you get some great special time with Rosie now too. Blessings.

  4. We had fun too Ann! I’m so glad Simon and Lucy are in the same class, although they seem to have already found their own same-sex soul mates :) Hooray for Lucy!
