She crawls

Not only has Rosie started to crawl, but we were rolling video the first time we saw her do it!

Rosie has been growing in her mobility quite a bit over the last couple months — rolling, doing a semi-army-crawl, getting up on all fours and rocking — but it wasn’t until Saturday that she performed a true crawl. And good for Papa catching it on film!

(The ambient music is “Celebrity Wedding” from The Baby Teeth Album by Baby Teeth.)

She’s still trying to master it, which has resulted in several very short afternoon naps so that she can squeeze in more practice time. (Her big “sister did this”:/news/2007/the-lucy-files-february-26/, too.) We hope that she’ll feel satisfied with her performance soon and return to her lengthy nap pattern!

In addition, Rosie sat up unassisted for the first time on Sunday — a weekend of firsts! We also caught her pulling herself up onto her knees using her exersaucer. (These photos show these breakthroughs, as she’s doing this stuff for the first or second time ever.) Look out, world!

Our current challenge is wrestling our extra-vigorous baby into her diapers. She is so active, she would crawl right off the diaper table if we took our hand off her for a second. Plus, she has taken to trying to roll over during the diaper change, which makes application of the diaper pretty difficult (not to mention potentially messy). Currently, she can be distracted for a few minutes by my watch — and I’m sure we’ll come up with something else when she tires of it! I keep trying to tell her that rolling over during the diaper change is strictly prohibited at our house, but she isn’t getting the message yet. Rosie is ready to go, and nothing must get in her way!
