Boring update

Thanks for all the comments on our “news earlier today”:/news/2008/baby-on-the-way/ that Baby’s on the way. Here’s a boring update.

It’s boring because Ann is literally bored. :) There’s lots of good news:

* We’re checked in at Evanston Hospital just fine
* We snagged the sweet room with the jumbo birthing tub
* Doula Dora is on site and geared up (and we just told her Baby Girl’s name already! isn’t that tantalizing?)
* Our nurse Lindsay is nice and even reminds us of our wonderful sister-in-law, Lisa
* One of our midwives, Debi, has checked in and shared lots of good info and ideas
* Preliminary monitoring all looks good: good heart rate from Baby, good response to contractions

But it’s boring because Ann’s contractions aren’t really kicking in yet. She went for some neighborhood walks this afternoon and that definitely stimulated the contractions, but when she stops, they subside.

So we’re trying some simple tricks: standing in a hot shower, using a breast pump. But if these don’t work before too long, we’ll go to a low-impact dose of pitocin, because they really are going to want to bring this baby out before too long (since tonight it’ll be 24 hours since Ann noticed amniotic fluid).

So right now our spirits are great, we’re having fun, nothing hurts too much — and we’re just watching to see what (and how) things develop.

Thanks so much for your prayers and comments here! They’re a big encouragement. Keep them coming. :)

  1. Oh my gosh, I’m so excited I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight! But you guys probably won’t be doing much sleeping, either, so I guess that’s fair…

About every five minutes I ask Eric, “What do you think Ann’s doing right now?”

He never has any idea :-) Go Boyds!!!!!!

  2. As I was reading this, I briefly considered staying up all night intermittently hitting “Refresh” on your blog.
But, I think you’d out last me :)

  3. Being in the hospital is so much fun when there’s nothing much going on, isn’t it? Like a mini-vacay. We’re praying things get going naturally. This is what happened to me with Eli. But I thought I was starting to pee in my pants!
