’Tis true what you have heard: No longer am I swaddled. An era has ended. I’ve traded in my “swaddling”:/news/2006/baby-houdini/ blankets for the wide-open expanse of the Sleep Sack. “Freedom”:/news/2006/power-to-the-people/ never felt so good.
p{color:gray}. Photo: How Barney Bear got into my Sleep Sack, I’ll never know.
As much as I have always loved the feeling of being “wrapped up tight”:/news/2006/pleased-to-meetcha/, I have finally grown weary of “restraint”:/news/2006/worried-mind/. I long to flail around in my crib, roll with abandon, and practice my crawling while pretending to sleep. My “cocoon”:/news/2006/luv-2-b-swaddled/ just grew a little too close; it was time for me to spread my wings and “fly”:/news/2006/unstable/. My transition to free-floating sleep has been a painless one, much to my parents’ surprise. The time was ripe, and they picked it wisely.
Who knew that already by eight-and-a-half months I would have known so many bittersweet pleasures? I see my “Blue Ball”:/news/2006/bouncing-baby-boyd/ in the basement coated thinly with dust. My “kitchen-sink baths”:/news/2006/ill-have-the-duck/ are but a distant memory. And now, my “swaddles”:/news/2006/happy-napper/ — O my “swaddles”:/news/2006/tongue-twister/! Our time together was destined to end, but I’ll always remember fondly the snug sleeps of my youth. Perhaps these “cherished scraps of cloth”:/news/2006/scalloped-ears/ and I will meet again, in a quilt or knee patch? Or wrapping up a wee sibling one day? Until then, rest easy, my friends. Relax thy fibers and relish thy laundering sabbath. You have served me well, and I will never forget our months of slumbering bliss.
bq. To honor the Swaddled Era, here’s a further guide to other classic shots of me all wrapped up (in addition to the many linked above):

My dear Lucia,
Your Mama and Papa do a pretty fair job of describing events in your home. Must admit that I enjoy reading of your adventures and changes and growth and Grandma and I owe your parents for all that they share with friends and family alike. I am now looking forward to holding you on Saturday so that we can be ready for a good crawling lesson. Get a good night of rest of Friday because we’ll spend some serious time on the floor Saturday. That means, of course, that you will probably be cruising your home on Sunday so new horizons await! I’m counting the hours and I send you my love…
Very cute picture of Lucy! Who’s her stylist? ;)
