You have every right to be pleased with yourself! Standing there like such a big girl, it is a big day in your life when you can hoist yourself up like that. I have just completed the refresher course in Teaching Crawling 101 so that I am prepared to work with you this coming weekend. I sense that you are well on the way to reaching this next goal so success is almost assured. Your cousin Violet was a quick learner of this new technique and I am confident that you will adapt to it just as quickly. THEN, tell your parents to watch out because you have some serious exploring to do!
Grandma and I are proud of your crib advances and we are eager to be a part of your crawling advances, as well. I send you my love…
Alas, let me clarify: she didn’t stand up on her own. (My guess is she’s pretty far from that, but you never know.) She does, however, delightedly keep herself there indefinitely. She’s a little wobbly, and her feet have a tendency to keep spreading apart gradually, but she loves it, as you can see here.
Well – I must admit when I saw her standing up above the top rail of the crib I thought oh my! Once she does it on her own (probably not too far off if she’s starting to crawl), definitely time to drop that mattress down to the bottom!
Ha! I let Benjamin play with all sorts of things that he’s otherwise not allowed to during diaper changes because it gets him to hold still. I figure he’s well supervised during diapering, so why not? His favorites include: James’ allen wrenches, fingernail clippers, a screwdriver and his thermometer.
I regretted showing maddy how to stand in the crib…she learned how to do it on her own within 1 week and bed times turned horrible!! But I guess they have to learn. Now bed time is fine, it is just the 3 am stand for an hour and scream bloody murder that I can’t handle (thank goodness God can). I would plan on moving that mattress really soon, before she surprizes you with a stand up and dive routine. :-p

Exactly! As with her use of fireworks, Lucy does this only under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.

Doesn’t it make you sad to move the mattress down – it’s like suddenly they aren’t a baby anymore…
