We acknowledge that the human smile is a psycho-physiological phenomenon, and that until newborns attain [1] control of their facial muscles and [2] perception of their surroundings it’s literally nonsense to say they’re truly smiling. Every once in a while, though, Lucy’s face cracks a grin on its own.
Ann has picked up an uncanny sense for when these are about to occur, so when she told me to grab the camera Monday night because Lucy was “about to smile,” I obeyed. Sure enough, we caught a couple of them as they flitted across her face.
What an adorable smile! We can’t wait till she’s treating us to these all the time.
(Why does Lucy look so greasy in this photo, you ask? She hadn’t yet had her first bath, which we gave her only last night. So you can expect a cleaner-looking visage in future pictures.)
I don’t believe those psychologists. That’s a smile, and a very cute one. :o)
What a sweet smile! How did the first bath go?
First bath was good as far as first baths go. She was a little crabby anyway, it being the end of the day. She cried at the beginning, then seemed to like it, and then cried at the end. But I have great faith that she will grow to enjoy baths!
What a cute smile, and she’s a month now they’ll start coming more often. Mo just had his first bath last week, we were waiting for “Mr. Peepers” to heal and it finally looked healed enough. He loved it.
The fact that she didn’t scream or poop in the water is a good sign.
