Yesterday was Lucy’s one month birthday. Hooray! Jon and I notice that she is looking more and more like a baby these days. Namely, she is a cutie. Let us tell you about several exciting events this week, some upcoming and some already passed, that we think are an appropriate way to celebrate Lucy turning one month old:
*Baptism*
Lucy is getting baptized this Sunday during our “church”:http://gracechurchchicago.org service! Any of you who live in the area are welcome to come. The service starts at 10:00 am; the baptism will take place after an opening set of musical worship. I am hoping that she won’t scream during the baptism, and am seriously considering bringing the bouncy birth ball to church for calming purposes — since it is sometimes the only thing that does the trick.
*First public poop leakage*
Wednesday we had a barbecue with our “small group”:http://microchurch.org/. Everything was going quite well, including nursing discreetly under a blanket, when I suddenly started to feel some wetness from Lucy. “Dr. Diaper? I think we have a situation here.” Lucy’s colossal poop had leaked all the way up the back of her onesie to her shoulder blades and onto my pants. Luckily, Dr. Diaper came to the rescue, we had another outfit in the diaper bag for Lucy, and we were in the company of gracious friends.
*The astonishing sleeping baby*
I feel a little nervous about mentioning this because a) I don’t want to jinx it (although that isn’t how God works), and b) I don’t want to take any credit for it. But here is the truth: Lucy slept for 6 hours straight two nights this week, and for 8 hours straight on another. Jon went in to check on her in the morning before she awoke. “She’s beautiful,” he said. “Is she breathing?” I asked. How did Lucy do it? I have no idea. I just thank God.
*First real bath*
The reality of our baby’s greasy state finally helped us get over our fears of bathing her, so Lucy plunged into the shallow end (very shallow) on Tuesday night. There was a certain amount of hollering, and with all the uproar we forgot to clean out her neck-cheese, but she emerged mostly clean and hopefully not too traumatized.
Hooray for the one-month birthday girl! She is wearing a new onesie today to commemorate her old age.
First real bath – hooray!
And baptism – hooray!
And sleeping through the night – triple hooray! (Trust us)
Happy birthday to Lucy! And congratulations to Mama and Papa for successfully navigating through the first month. Doesn’t it feel like it’s taken about 6 years to get through this one month?
Yes! it really does feel like this month has taken forever. But I believe people who say “they grow up so fast!,” so I’m guessing that subsequent months won’t feel like 6 years.
Yeah, it gets a LOT faster once everyone gets a little more rest. Plus, she’ll start interacting more and learning how to use her body more, and then it feels like every time you turn around, the baby has grown or developed in some amazing new way.
