No, we haven’t yet received our first gentleman caller to wait upon Miss Lucy (though I’m sure he will be upon us before we know it). But Ann and I had _our_ first date since Lucy’s birth.
We have always enjoyed our longstanding practice of having dates together, usually weekly, since before we were married. Needless to say, a newborn in the house has put a wrinkle in that habit.
Fortunately, Lucy has the greatest godparents! Linda and derek have been insisting that we go out on a date, and that they babysit Lucy. We’re so thankful, because although Ann found herself in tears as we walked out the door (“You really don’t think Lucy will wake up and feel abandoned?”), we really had a great time going to “Lupita’s”:http://lupitasmexicanrestaurant.com/ for dinner, the Dairy Star for an elegant soft-serve dessert, and a walk in the Skokie sculpture park. It was really refreshing, though needless to say we were happy, too, to come back home to a happy baby and smiling friends.
Here’s to many more happy dates for Mama and Papa!
Three cheers for you guys! You are an inspiration! We, Ben and I, have to have been the single worst “date” time makers ever – why the past tense? I have no idea – we still don’t do it! : ) Good for you too, Linda and Derek! Way to take charge and help Mama and Papa Bear be the best parents ever by taking sometime to be a couple.
