To my dear Lucia,
You are looking at something interesting and I know your mind is growing by the minute with all the loving care you receive from your wonderful parents. I thought you might like to know that tomorrow, July 22, is the day your cousin Violet met her parents (your Uncle Jim and Aunt Lisa) for the first time in China. We celebrate that event just as we celebrate your life. Grandma and I find that our lives have been enriched with the addition of two beautiful granddaughters. We are so thankful for the blessings in our lives. Now, tell me what it is that you are looking at in this photo? I bet your Daddy is making a funny face.
In fact, here’s a shot of her looking in this same direction, in late April. I think she must love the high-contrast black-and-white and the stark shapes of the sculpture. She seems to find it as peaceful an image as we do!

Although I admit that I do often make funny faces, in this case, she’s looking at “Noguchi’s Garden,†our sculpture by Cam Anderson.
