Arch angel

Earlier this week, Ann wrote about Lucy’s adorable “"little stretch routine"”:/news/2006/three-weeks/ when waking up from a swaddled sleep, and that made me realize we didn’t have any photos of that.

Since reading her post Wednesday, I’ve noticed those moments of wriggling all the more. (Keeping this blog and reading Ann’s posts really do help me to pay attention differently, kind of how I feel about keeping score at a baseball game.) It’s how Lucy arches her spine and throws her head back with her arms way up that tickles me the most.

But how to catch this in a photo? There are at least three hurdles, it seems to me:

* Usually, it’s only one of us going in to unswaddle her (no photographer present, in other words)
* Those moments pass so quickly
* And of course, making good photographs is always hard (not that this has ever kept me from making bad ones)

At any rate, I figured it was worth an intentional effort to catch her stretch routine. This morning I shot 18 frames in the space of one minute and 14 seconds. She was so fresh from the swaddle you can still see the imprint on her skin of the cloth’s wrinkles. This one is the pick of the litter.

Strrrretch!

  1. I’ve been reading all the comments on the posts, and I wish I knew all your friends! All the kind words, friendly suggestions, and gentle encouragement have been blessing my heart. :) The three of you are a great family, and it’s neat to read how many people love you.

And Lucy is adorable, as always. Great picture! (I like the onesie, too).

  2. She is soooooooo cute! Great shot, Papa Bear! And *where* did you get that onsie!?!?!? That might have to be a part of the gift baskets in my classes, if I can get a hold of them. Too perfect!

  3. My friend Jane gave us the onesie. She has a fabulous store, “Curious Jane”:http://curiousjane.com, and I think she probably has them in stock — or you could contact her through the store to ask where she got it! I love it too. It is marked as a 6-month size, but it actually fits Lucy perfectly right now.
