Rosalind Hazel Boyd

Sorry to leave y’all hanging so long — but here’s the great news: we’ve got a new daughter in the family! We call her Rosie.

Rosalind Hazel Boyd

Rosalind Hazel Boyd was born at 6:05 am today, March 14, 2008, after an intense but relatively brief labor by Ann. Mama and Rosie are both doing splendidly, in good health and getting along swimmingly on the nursing front, and both catching up on their rest, too.

Here is just the smallest selection of photos from the day with many more to come.

Super-Pregnant Lady

Here’s Ann on our front steps, as we were departing for the hospital yesterday afternoon. We wanted to get a snap of her at her absolute biggest, and this does the job amply.

Walking Around

Here she is walking around the premises at Evanston Hospital, trying to kick-start labor with the old trick of perambulation. She always did get great contractions going when walking, but they always stopped once she stayed put. She eventually ended up with a slow ramp-up of pitocin, which worked fabulously and didn’t cause any of the troubles it sometimes can.

Pride and Prejudice

One of the secrets of the night turned out to be the “1995 BBC production of _Pride and Prejudice_”:http://www.jonboyd.org/reviews/000013.php (the one starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth). Here’s a shot of Ann keeping an eye on Mr Bennet while Nurse Lindsay keeps an eye on baby’s vitals on the telemetry.

Crying

There’s Rosie in full cry. She’s got a good voice, but can she keep up with her big sister, Lucy? Time will tell. Also in this shot, you can see her thinner head of hair, which makes it look as if she’s going to be a Curly Girl like her Mama, don’t you think?

Peaceful

Finally, a peaceful shot from a strange angle — but that shows off her beauty in natural light on this beautiful spring day in Chicago.

I’m going to leave comments closed on this post here and invite you to visit “RosieBoyd.com”:http://rosieboyd.com/ to sign her “Guest Book”:http://rosieboyd.com/news/guestbook/ with greetings (just as we did “for her big sister”:http://lucyboyd.com/guestbook/ almost two years ago).

More news and photos to come right here at Boyds’ Nest News as soon as we can!
