One of my most vivid experiences of the whole trip was passing out from the nearly-unmoving shadow of the Eiger, after nearly two hours in it, into the blazing sun in these high alpine meadows. One moment I was cold, with eyes tuned to my dark, immediate surroundings — and the next I was soaking in the warmth and gazing out over the wider world.
