A few months ago, while desperately trying to find a way to think about non-baby-related things, I stumbled upon _The Week._ It is the perfect magazine to help a new mother keep up with the news, with clearly written, comprehensive, brief articles; almost no ads; and only 40 pages per issue. <\/p>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

“_The Week_”:http:\/\/theweekmagazine.com\/ is a terrific digest. The editors survey periodicals from all over the world and summarize events and viewpoints succinctly in their articles. I really appreciate their world-wide focus. Even if I had time to read the whole _Chicago Tribune_, I wouldn’t be getting perspective about Ramadan direct from the _Oman Daily Observer._<\/p>\n

I’ve always had difficultly keeping up with current events. Even when motivated to read the newspaper, I would get bogged down in jargon and backstory. With conventional journalism, I always feel as if I’m walking into the middle of a conversation, so I really enjoy the clarity provided by _The Week._ They aren’t shy about briefly describing the history of a situation or unpacking acronyms.<\/p>\n

I first read of this magazine in a new InterVarsity Press book, James Emery White’s “_A Mind for God_”:http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0830833927\/octothorppres-20. Inspired by the thought that I could begin exercising my brain a bit more, I went in search of this recommended periodical. And am I glad I did! It is refreshing to have an opportunity to get my head out of diapers and into world issues every week. And these days, it almost always provides a good reminder to be grateful for relative peace around us and to pray for the resolution of conflicts elsewhere. I’m glad for this accessible way to be part of the worldwide community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
