<\/p>\nPotty-training is still underway at the Boyd household. The good news is that Lucy is making some progress. The bad news is that Mama feels the need for a mimosa by 8:00 am. <\/p>\n
Each day, Lucy is having at least as many potty “successes” as accidents. And for Day 4 of “Potty”:\/news\/2008\/potty-training-weekend\/ “Training”:\/news\/2008\/weekend-update\/, that isn’t so bad. But I find that I’m starting to take the accidents a little too personally.<\/p>\n

Now, I freely admit that I am a bit of a germophobe. And a control-freak. And a neat-freak. These are not helpful qualities in a potty-trainer. I have been trying to relax my standards, go with the flow, and just trust the process, but it isn’t always working. Since Lucy is a joyful, free two-year-old, she doesn’t seem too bothered by her accidents. “Oops!” I say, and she’ll agree to that, but then later she’ll laugh about it while I’m still grumpily cleaning up the mess and trying to console a crying Rosie from afar. I start wondering: Is Lucy intentionally having accidents to “act out”? Is she truly ready to potty-train? Does she really understand the concept? Or is the whole potty-training thing just too much pressure to handle? (That last one is definitely projection on my part!)<\/p>\n
I’m just not convinced that Lucy is sufficiently motivated to use the potty. My latest theory is that the sticker-chart thing is too abstract for her. I’m seriously considering trying Raisinettes tomorrow. I don’t want to get her hooked on candy as a treat for using the potty, but I do really want to create a strong desire in her to pee in the right spot. Any tips on doing this well?<\/p>\n
Probably the most stressful thing is the lack of control I feel. It makes me nuts that I can’t always jump up and be right there to help Lucy get to the potty on time, especially if I’m in the middle of nursing Rosie or something. And it makes me even more nuts if I do help Lucy go to the potty, and then she has an accident immediately afterwards. There just isn’t anything I can do to *make* her use the potty. That is probably a good thing, because I do want her to grow into a strong individual. Just not right now!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
