Let me explain.

As if “all the barfing last night”:/news/2008/help-for-barfy-barney/ weren’t exciting enough, Ann also thought she might have a small amniotic-fluid leak (around 4:30 AM, which turns out to be extremely relevant). So amidst doing load after load of laundry, comforting Lucy, and posting on BNN ;) , she was also starting to worry whether she would be laboring soon and maybe starting to throw up as Lucy had been (all without a night’s sleep).

Well, she’s not throwing up yet herself, but she has just called from the midwife’s office, and they’ve confirmed she does have an amniotic leak. Any leak, however small, is as if she dropped the whole bag on the floor — so now the clock is ticking on getting labor going and having this baby!

There’s something between 24 and 48 hours from breaking the amniotic sac until they want the baby out, because of the risk of infection once the protective amniotic fluid and sac are compromised. So we’re checking into the hospital this afternoon and we’ll be trying to get labor going through minimal interventions first, like breast pumping, walking up and down, perhaps “stripping the membranes” (which is what got Lucy’s delivery going, actually). But given the ever-shortening window of opportunity, it might come to pitocin (the labor-inducing drug) and the whole works.

So we’re off and running! The bags are packed, Grammie and Grandpa have been deployed to come pick up Lucy after (hopefully!) her afternoon nap, and we’re definitely psyched. Given the time of the leak, we’re pretty much having this baby today or tomorrow!

Will you please pray with us for a safe, quick, healthy delivery for Ann, without any of this stomach bug Lucy has had? (No barfing for me either, while you’re at it.) And a strong, healthy baby to come just at the right time? That’s our hearts’ desire.

Big news: it seems that by about 4:30 AM Saturday or so — at the _latest_ — this Belly Baby should be out.
