That&#8217;s starting to change, though, so here is an update about her complete vocabulary to date. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/boydsnest.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/img_9380.JPG' alt='Vocabulary update: September 7, 2007' class=\"alignright\" \/><\/p>\n<p>p{color:gray}. Photo: Lucy hugging her beloved Piggy Lou and &#8220;Ba Ba.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There are three categories here: words she speaks, sign language she uses, and body parts &#8220;she readily identifies&#8221;:\/news\/2007\/our-little-announcement.<\/p>\n<p>*Words*<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dt> &#8220;Barney Bear&#8221;:\/news\/2007\/one-of-a-kind\/ <\/dt>\n<dd>Sounds like: &#8220;Ba-ba.&#8221;<\/dd>\n<dt>butt<\/dt>\n<dd>&rsquo;Nuff said.<\/dd>\n<dt>cookie<\/dt>\n<dd>This is the newest one, and it&#8217;s hilariously clear (though sometimes the &#8220;c&#8221; and &#8220;k&#8221; are more like a &#8220;g&#8221;).<\/dd>\n<dt>diaper<\/dt>\n<dd>Sounds like: &#8220;bwah-boh.&#8221;<\/dd>\n<dt>ding<\/dt>\n<dd>For our toaster oven, which has a bell that sounds just like this.<\/dd>\n<dt>glasses<\/dt>\n<dd>Sounds like: &#8220;gwah-goh.&#8221;<\/dd>\n<dt>hi<\/dt>\n<dd>This one was her first word intelligible to strangers, and she continues to say it loud and clear to family, visitors, shoppers in the grocery aisles, everywhere&#8230;. In fact, here&#8217;s some audio of her saying it:<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p><object width=\"440\" height=\"16\" classid=\"clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B\" codebase=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/qtactivex\/qtplugin.cab\"><param name=\"src\" value=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/lucy-says-hi.mp3\" \/><param name=\"autoplay\" value=\"false\" \/><param name=\"controller\" value=\"true\" \/><embed src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/lucy-says-hi.mp3\" width=\"440\" height=\"16\" autoplay=\"false\" controller=\"true\" pluginspage=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/quicktime\/download\/\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<dl>\n<dt>more<\/dt>\n<dd>Sounds like: &#8220;mee-mee-mee.&#8221; (This one is new, but she combines it with the sign-language for &#8220;more,&#8221; so we&#8217;re pretty sure it&#8217;s what she means.)<\/dd>\n<dt>nose<\/dt>\n<dd>Sounds like: &#8220;nah-nah-nah.&#8221; This is one of her earliest words and has been seen &#8220;on video&#8221;:\/news\/2007\/our-little-announcement here at BNN.<\/dd>\n<dt>off<\/dt>\n<dd>Both for electronic devices as well as items of clothing. Every morning when I go in to get her up, she leaps up in her crib, points animatedly toward the baby monitor and noise machine (like the Secret Service agents in the Zapruder film), and commands, &#8220;Off! Off! Off!&#8221;<\/dd>\n<dt>thank you<\/dt>\n<dd>Sounds like: &#8220;ack oo.&#8221;<\/dd>\n<dt>woof-woof<\/dt>\n<dd>Used not just for dogs, but for any non-human, non-bug animal (including cats, pigs, ducks, squirrels, etc.).<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p>*Signs*<\/p>\n<p>all done \/ finished<br \/>\n&#8220;baby&#8221;:\/news\/2007\/our-little-announcement<br \/>\nbath(time)<br \/>\nplease<br \/>\nmore (her favorite by far)<\/p>\n<p>*Body Parts*<\/p>\n<p>head<br \/>\nhair<br \/>\nears<br \/>\neyes<br \/>\nnose (also spoken, see above)<br \/>\nmouth<br \/>\nteeth<br \/>\ntongue<br \/>\nchin<br \/>\n&#8220;armpit&#8221;:\/news\/2007\/our-little-announcement<br \/>\nhands<br \/>\nfingers<br \/>\nbelly\/bellybutton<br \/>\nbutt<br \/>\nknees<br \/>\ntoes<br \/>\nfeet<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll keep you posted as as she adds more!
