Well, *we* knew (of course), and a few others, but we haven’t felt confident enough to post until today.

We are delighted, nervous, and excited about this new little life in my belly. Ten-and-a-half weeks along in this pregnancy, everything is going really well. With my history of miscarriage, we know that every pregnancy doesn’t necessarily end in a live birth, so we’ve been taking it one day at a time. But each day seems to be full of the signs of a healthy pregnancy. We had an early ultrasound about a month ago where we saw the baby’s heart beating away and were glad to see that the little bean was measuring just the right size for his/her age.

“Morning” sickness has been an extra challenge this time around — perhaps it is a bit worse with this pregnancy, or perhaps it is just the consistent need for preparing food for Lucy and changing stinky diapers that makes things extra tough. I don’t know how I would have done it without Jon — he has been the Champion Papa these past weeks, gladly preparing meals (even when nothing sounds good to me), changing poopy diapers, and generally encouraging me that I really will feel better when the first trimester is over. I’m grateful for the morning sickness since I know that is a sign of a healthy pregnancy, but I’m really ready for this stage to be over!

While at Cedar Campus, we were very glad to see Lucy’s interest in the three-month-old infants who were there too. She seemed to light up every time they were around, and quickly learned the sign language for “baby” — a rocking of the arms as if soothing an infant. (See the accompanying video below, which also includes a bonus body-part quiz from Papa.) She continues to enjoy seeing babies while we are out about town or looking in magazines. We know she doesn’t quite know what we are getting into here (and neither do we), but any sign of interest from her strengthens our great hope that she will love her little sibling dearly.

(Now that this news is out, I hope to be posting a bit more — between napping when I can and not wanting to spill the beans, I’ve been on sort of a BNN hiatus. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a lot to say! Stay tuned…)

p{color:gray}.
