(Keeping this blog and reading Ann’s posts really do help me to pay attention differently, kind of how I feel about keeping score at a baseball game.) It’s how Lucy arches her spine and throws her head back with her arms way up that tickles me the most.

But how to catch this in a photo? There are at least three hurdles, it seems to me:

* Usually, it’s only one of us going in to unswaddle her (no photographer present, in other words)
* Those moments pass so quickly
* And of course, making good photographs is always hard (not that this has ever kept me from making bad ones)

At any rate, I figured it was worth an intentional effort to catch her stretch routine. This morning I shot 18 frames in the space of one minute and 14 seconds. She was so fresh from the swaddle you can still see the imprint on her skin of the cloth’s wrinkles. This one is the pick of the litter.

Earlier this week, Ann wrote about Lucy’s adorable “"little stretch routine"”:/news/2006/three-weeks/ when waking up from a swaddled sleep, and that made me realize we didn’t have any photos of that.

[2

post-115","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-kids
["GET
