Right. I'm a little worried about too much magnification with the 50mm. (For family closeups, zoomed all the way out to 18mm with my kit lens has been right most of the time, as in the shot on this post, and the one I just posted for Rosie's birthday.) But we'll see; and I will keep you posted.

I used the 50mm growing up on a film camera, but with these digital cameras, a 50mm is the equivalent of an 80mm (50x1.6). Unfortunately, the camera makers seem to have stuck with the 50mm as their choice for a good, cheap prime. The 35mm and 28mm lenses are so much more expensive.

I'll be interested to know how the 50mm works for you.

So far, just the kit lens, an 18-55mm/3.5-5.6. But I've got a 50mm/1.8 prime on its way.

Ah, the Canon EOS T2i looks really nice. What lenses did you get? (An appropriate question for a Lenz.)

I'm still using the first generation Digital Rebel from 2003 and it's going strong. Only thing I'd change is that it would be nice to have a 28mm prime with 1.4 to 2.0 F-stop.

Kelli, you're totally right about the challenges of navigating todder/preschoolers and a newborn. Number one priority: for mama to get some sleep! I remember those days, and no matter how much I read, if I was not getting sleep, I was not going to be able to manage anybody's needs. But there's another truth: although these books can be really helpful and full of good ideas, the bottom line is that you are a caring, loving person, and Jesus is helping you to become more like him. No matter what you read or don't read, that is going to shine through in your parenting. You're doing a great job. :)
