So, I’m just curious – which one of Lucy’s parents (or can you both?) can twist your tongue like Lucy does? James can do it, I can’t. Benjamin can’t (at least, I’m assuming he would have demonstrated such an ability by now) and I haven’t seen Ella do it, so I’m just wondering how the genetics of it work.

Both Ann and I can flip our tongues over like this. In fact, Ann can make hers go completely upside down. So maybe it takes both parents’ genes to pass it along? We need more data. :)

Well I looked up tongue rolling (you know, making your tongue shape like a U) and that is a dominant gene. I couldn’t find anything on tongue flipping. James can roll his tongue as well as flip his tongue, so maybe they are the same gene? If so, he must have one tongue rolling gene and one not rolling the tongue gene and since I have both recessive genes, that must be what Benjamin got. Aren’t genetics fun?
