Pregnant memories
It is hard to believe that I was still pregnant less than two months ago — it feels like it has been much longer! I was just thinking the other day about things that I remember from being 9+ months pregnant. Here is a quick list:
I remember…
- feeling Lucy kicking, wiggling, and doing yoga in my belly all day long
- worrying if I wasn’t feeling Lucy kicking, wiggling, or doing yoga
- trying really hard never to reveal the secret of Lucy’s name
- experiencing heartburn, especially at night
- having a slightly bloody nose most of the time
- needing to pee very, very often
- not being able to sleep on my back
- counting down the days until Lucy’s due date
- counting up the days after Lucy’s due date
- going for long walks trying to bring on labor
- waking up every morning and wondering, “Will today be Lucy’s birthday?”
- reading everything I could find about bringing on labor
- hoping my Braxton-Hicks contractions would turn into something more productive
- not wanting to drive anywhere very far for fear that I would suddenly go into labor
- having difficulty tying my own shoes
- having difficulty getting in and out of the car
- taking pictures of my belly every week

Photo: From our series documenting Ann’s growing belly, these three shots were taken January 15, February 12, and April 16, 2006.
- moisturizing my belly every day after getting out of the shower
- having only a few shirts that would really fit over my belly
- Jon calling to Lucy several times each day, “Come out! Come out, Lucy!”
I really enjoyed being pregnant, but it was pretty emotionally exhausting during those last few weeks. I’m glad Lucy is out-and-about now, and I think she is glad too. It sure seems that way when she smiles at us!

Did anyone else notice? As the belly gets bigger, the smiles gets _______.

That is funny! I didn’t even notice that before. Maybe I was worried that smiling big would make my cheeks look chubby? Or I was just plain getting grumpier…
